Candlelighters Halloween Bash

by Charlie Lorden

For the first time, Wynn Las Vegas participated in the Candlelighter’s annual Halloween Bash on October 24th at Ellis Island Casino. The Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation is the first and oldest nonprofit in Nevada serving families coping with childhood cancer. Its services provide a critical lifeline for families - providing assistance coping for emotional trauma and assistance for financial hardship when a loved one is diagnosed with childhood cancer. The Candlelighters Halloween Bash represented an opportunity to provide a carefree, safe Halloween experience as well as bring joy to the families that came trick-or-treating.

5 out of 72 rooms were sponsored by Wynn, and each room was expertly themed and decorated by Wynn employees, family, and friends.  Our creative teams themed their rooms around Aladdin, Toy Story, Addams Family, Candyland and Minions. On Thursday, October 24th, 415 children participated in this incredible trick- or-treating event and $110,000 was raised for Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation.

In total, 45 volunteers participated in decoration preparation and the event itself! Our volunteers’ time accumulated to over 420 personal volunteer hours. All of the 72 rooms were judged by 3 Candlelighters children and the daughters of Gary Ellis. The Retail Visual team took first place in the Room Judging Contest! They created an immaculately cooky and spooky Addams Family room, complete with Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday Addams, and a Cousin It made from wigs! Thank you to our Wynn volunteers that represented Engineering, Le Reve, Payroll, and Guest Relations!
